Boston, MA - It has been a really good week for Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli. Not long after being named as the GM for team Canada, charged with fantasy drafting a team of all-stars to represent his home country at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the Boston Bruins announced today that they have signed Chiarelli to a contract extension that keeps him in Boston through the 2017-2018 season.
Signed as the B's General Manager on May 6, 2006, Chiarelli is entering his eighth season with Boston. Outside of his first season here, which was obviously a rebuilding year in the organization, the Bruins have qualified for the playoffs in each of the last six seasons, winning the Stanley Cup once in 2011 and going to the Cup Finals once again last season. He became just the third GM in Bruins history to win a cup.
Chiarelli has done an admirable job at the helm in Boston throughout his tenure, identifying and solidifying a core group that has helped build Boston into a perennial Stanley Cup contendor.
